In The Moment
I often like to take a "break" from details and paint in my Dr. Suess style of painting. I mean look at those melty evergreen trees. How fun is that?
If we were to get academic about it, we could argue that this is the perfect mashup of a Van Gogh-style sky with a Fauvist style of painting. I really enjoy leveraging the black ground color of the canvas to create a negative space to build compositions that echo that of wood-cut prints or stained glass by separating color from its descriptive, representational purpose and allowing it to exist on the canvas as an independent element.
