"The Visitor" 24x24 Acrylic on Canvas
When we open the door of our hearts to the unknown what would wander in?
"The Visitor" is the most recent addition to my new "My Home Too" series, which provokes us to consider our behaviors and how they are impacting the natural world. Are we willing to share spaces with endangered and wild animals? How would we feel if they showed up in our habitats and took over, as we do theirs?
Plant and animal species are losing their homes because of the growing needs of human activity. Human destruction of habitat has been identified as the main threat to over 85% of all species.
The secretive Sierra Nevada Fox is the largest of the true foxes. It inhabits remote, high-elevation reaches of the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade Mountains. Unfortunately, this unique animal is one of the rarest mammals in North America and is now limited to only two tiny California populations that likely consist of fewer than 50 — and possibly even fewer than 20 — individuals.
